Day 2 – Salvador (Full-Day City Tour)
09:00 AM – 12:00 PM
The tour begins at Barra Lighthouse, the geographical limit between the Bay of All Saints and the Atlantic Ocean, where we stop for photos. Along Avenida Sete de Setembro, we pass by Barra’s slope, home to the Yacht Club of Salvador, the Church of Santo Antônio da Barra, and the English Cemetery.
We continue through Largo da Vitória (home to the oldest church in Bahia), Vitória Corridor (where Bahian aristocracy once lived in beautiful mansions such as the current Carlos Costa Pinto Museum), and Campo Grande (site of historic battles during Bahia’s independence and today a key Carnival location).
The tour continues on foot to the Municipal Square, where you’ll find Rio Branco Palace (State Government headquarters) and City Hall, in front of the Lacerda Elevator, offering one of the most beautiful views of the Bay of All Saints.
Next, we head to Terreiro de Jesus, home to Salvador Cathedral and the Church of São Francisco, one of the richest in Brazil and a remarkable example of Portuguese Baroque architecture.
The tour ends at Pelourinho, a vibrant area blending colors, cultures, and history, recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site and immortalized by writer Jorge Amado.
Break for rest and lunch (not included).
02:00 PM – 05:00 PM
The tour continues to Dique do Tororó, home to the sculptures of the Candomblé Orixás and the Fonte Nova Stadium (used during the 2014 World Cup and Rio 2016 Olympics).
We proceed along Vale de Nazaré Avenue through the Américo Simas Tunnel toward the lower city, passing the port area and the commercial district of Calçada, where the historic railway station can be seen.
In Largo de Roma, we visit the Social Works of Sister Dulce (a Bahian nun whose canonization was requested at the Vatican). We continue along Dendezeiros Avenue to Bonfim Hill for a photo stop at the famous Bonfim Church, known for the traditional “Lavagem do Bonfim.”
We then pass by Monte Serrat Fort, offering breathtaking views of the Bay of All Saints, before heading to Mercado Modelo to enjoy local handicrafts, with the sea as a backdrop and the sound of the berimbau (a traditional capoeira instrument).
Return to the hotel.
